A New Chapter

As you make your way down the entrance walkway to Barrel Farm, you’ll spot an old building to the left. This is the Old Dairy - in fact, it was one of Albany’s early dairy farms. A piece of the property’s history, and one that is now being restored and given a whole new purpose.

The Buxton family bought the farm in 2019, they wanted to keep the authenticity of the property, bringing it back to life without taking away the original structures. For more than two years, the family spent their weekends restoring, building, plating and working together, deliberately retaining the original dairy, shearing shed, old dairy chimney and even the little dairy loo along the way.

The restoration of the Old Dairy is still underway, but it’s next chapter is already taking shape. Once complete, the space will become Barrel Farm’s private function and wine tasting room, creating a more intimate space for celebrations, gatherings, tastings and special events.

We’re hoping to open the doors from November, giving this old piece of the farm a new job, while keeping plenty of it’s old character.

Because sometimes, the best new stories are the ones that still have a little history in them.
